Now here is a book that will really get you thinking!  Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business by Neil Postman.  Instead of demonstrating truth all an advertisement has to do is float an image or show a smiling couple and the audience is sold!  We have stopped thinking critically in this nation and instead have become mindless consumers watching the boob tube.  Check it out.  Postman delves into the history of advertisement and dumps a bucket of ice cold water over your head concerning the dangers we now face.
